Easy as Pie!
A full house gathered in the Brewery Tap for last night’s light-hearted quiz.
In honour of forthcoming British Pie Week (6th – 12th March), Quizmaster Bruce pulled out all the stops with a Picture Round devoted to pies! Sadly there was no tasting, but plenty of fun in guessing which of the 20 pictures were real pies according to the definition from the judges of British Pie Week!
Starting in familiar territory with a round on In the News, testing the teams’ BAFTA film knowledge with All Quiet on the Western Front, and the name of Colin the Caterpillar’s friend, before moving on to True or False and What Comes Next where there was an opportunity for everyone to shine!
There was even a whole round devoted to "Pi" ranging from Life of Pi, to what number letter is π in the Greek alphabet, and what is π to three decimal place.
In the Ditloids round, Rupert guessed the answer to 13=BD as a Brewer’s Dozen but swiftly realised a brewer wouldn’t give anything away for free so came up with the real answer of 13= a Baker’s Dozen.
The pièce de résistance (or should that be pie de résistance) was “Music Beergo” – Bruce’s take on Bingo with hits from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s. With bonus points for lines as well as the elusive full house, most contented themselves with joining in and singing along.
It was a fitting finale to a fun evening with a serious cause of raising money for the Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal (DEC). All ticket proceeds went to this charity. A huge thank you to everyone for their generous donations on the evening as well.
It seemed as easy as pie for "Easy Breezy", who emerged winners after a competitive tussle with the hastily named team "Hogs Back Brewery Quiz Night", who scooped second place.
The "Fab Four" were rewarded for taking part with a prize too!
With all that talk of pies, look out for our special pies on the menu next week at the Tap to celebrate British Pie Week!
