Sunken Garden starts to grow
The next phase of developing our new private event space is now well under way.
The Sunken Garden will be on the site of the old reservoir. The reservoir – once supplying water for the many strawberry plants grown on the farm - has long since been home to several large carp. The carp have now been happily rehoused in a local fishery. The reservoir has been almost completely drained, leaving a thick layer of silt at the bottom.
Builder Ben has called in the heavy machinery. Under Ben’s expert guidance a path is first cut through to the bank before the digger can descend the steep side to the reservoir floor. Removing the slimy silt is a tricky job and is going to take some time! But it has to be done before the new base of The Sunken Garden can be laid. Apprentice Euan is on hand as ever and they’ve even roped in Ollie. When Ollie joined the Shop team, he didn’t realise his landscape gardening skills would be put to such good use!
