#StandUpForCask: 6 great pubs to visit this summer

Summer is here and what could be a nicer way to celebrate that than by drinking a pint of well kept ale in a lovely pub. As restrictions are fully lifted, the hospitality sector needs a busy summer and brewers like us need more cask ale sales. Cask Ale, more commonly known as Real Ale, is the fresh product poured which can only be enjoyed through the Handpulls of your pub or directly from your local brewery such as us. Cask Marque has been standing up for the Great British pint for 3 decades and sees this summer as the make or break for cask ale. If we don't go to the pub and drink real ale when it is fresh, then landlords have to do the horrifying thing of pouring the undrunk beer away. The more beer is thrown away, the less they order from the brewery which means the less cost effective it is for people like us to brew Real Ale.

In support of their campaign, the Hogs Back has picked out some of our favourite local pubs where you are guaranteed to enjoy a really decent pint of Real Ale including some of our own.

Prince of Wales, Farnborough - CAMRA Gold 2021

Very much a local favourite and the first pub to ever serve TEA. As the Regular haunt of the local CAMRA branch and winner of a coveted Gold Award in the 2021 CAMRA pub awards, that should give you a good indication of the quality of the beer.

The Crispin, Wokingham

In most pubs you would be lucky to find 2 Cask Ales available. The Crispin regularly has 5 ales. The owners love their beer and it comes across in the quality of the pint you are served and the warm and friendly reception you get from all the staff.

The Fur and Feathers, Herriard (Basingstoke)

No photo description available.

A lovely family run pub to visit this summer out in the Hampshire countryside. Really proud to support local producers and local brewers and previously voted Hampshire Life Pub of the Year. Our team are big fans of this place. Please note the pub will be closed next week but will be open as normal from Tuesday 3rd August.

The Barley Mow, Shepperton - CAMRA Gold 2021

The Barley Mow - Pub, Live Music

The Barley Mow is the kind of pub which doesn't need a social media page. It is as traditional as it is eccentric and is the home to a very decent pint. Again it has picked up one of the 50 Gold Awards which CAMRA have been presenting to mark their 50th anniversary as a pub serving consistently high quality ale. Go for the beer, stay for the unexpected.

The New Inn, Send

A lovely little 18th century pub on the banks of the Wey Navigation canal. Serving traditional ales and modern cuisine it is a lovely mix of the old and new in a peaceful corner of Surrey.

The Duke of Cambridge, Tilford

A gorgeous foodie pub which happens to also have a micro-brewery onsite. Part of the Red Mist Leisure group which demands the highest of standards. The Rushmoor Ripper from Tilford Brewery is a must try and previous favourite beer at Farnham Beerex.

The Hogs Back Tap, Tongham

If you are looking for fresh beer, then it doesn't get fresher than our very own Tap room! It is so fresh that you can sit and enjoy your Snorter of real ale whilst watching the hops growing that went into making that very beer! We're open every weekend Thursday - Sunday and you can book a table in advance or just turn up.
