Hop Garden Open Evening 2025 - Hogs Back Brewery

Hop Garden Open Evening 2025

Join us for our annual Hop Garden Open Evening on Thursday 21st August from 6pm - 8pm.

Hop Garden Open Evening 21st August 2025

Now’s your chance to get up close and personal with our hops.  Join one of the team to learn about the rich history of hop growing in the Farnham area and why Surrey used to be the pre-eminent hop growing county.

Understand why in 2014 we built our own hop garden, just yards from the Brewhouse, and how we look after our hops.  Find out about the Hogs Back Hopper volunteers who help out in the garden all year round.

Discover the different hop varieties, each with their unique character, we grow and which of our beers they feature in.

Learn the important difference between a male and female hop plant!

"Rub a hop" to release the all-important hop oils and much more.

The team will be on hand to show you round and give a 30-minute mini tour in the hop garden itself.

Reserve you place now and on the evening, turn up anytime between 6pm and 7.30pm to join one of the team in the garden (last tour scheduled for 7.30pm so don’t miss it!).  It's a £5 per person donation to this year's chosen charity, National Autistic Society, and this includes a pint of our finest Tongham TEA (or soft drink alternative).

We'll be offering a sample of Tongham TEA (brewed with the Fuggles hops that you will see in the hop garden!) or our non-alcoholic alternative.  But we hope you will stay on after the talk and make an evening of it.  There will be plenty of fresh beer on tap and a full menu, plus our Pulled Pork.  What better place to enjoy these than from the beer garden, which overlooks the hop garden!

If you are a member of the Tongham TEA Club, it's free.  Just click through from the Tongham TEA Club invitation emailer.

Families welcome.  We regret dogs are not allowed in the hop garden, but are more than welcome in the Brewery Tap and Beer Garden.  No unaccompanied children.  Maximum of 2 people per booking.

The ground in the hop garden can be a bit uneven, so please wear appropriate footwear.  You will need to walk through a mild disinfectant “boot bath” as a biosecurity measure before you go into the hop garden.

Booking essential.

If we've whetted your appetite or piqued your curiosity, why not sign up for a Hop Garden Tour proper?  Or volunteer as a Hogs Back Hopper all year round?
