Hogs Back Brewery welcomes "Head Brewer for a Day" winners
On 11th September, we were very pleased to welcome the winner of our TEA Head Brewer for the Day competition to our Brewery in Tongham.
Promoted only on neck collars on TEA bottles sold in supermarkets earlier in 2017, over 2500 people entered the competition online.
The lucky winner, Joanne Thorpe from Southampton, was chosen at random from all the entries and won a VIP day at the Brewery for herself and a friend plus dinner and an overnight stay at a local hotel.
Joanne chose to bring along her husband, Simon, and together they spent a VIP day at the Brewery with the Hogs Back Brewery team. After an introduction to the Brewery from Managing Director, Rupert Thompson, the two were immersed in the brewing process carefully guided by Head Brewer, Miles Chesterman.
With our hop garden just over the road in full bloom, the winners were able to view the whole brewing process from start to finish - and even took a quick trip to Hamptons Estate in Puttenham where the drying of our hops happens in their brand new Oast House.
After a spot of lunch with the Hogs Back team, Joanne and Simon viewed the very end of the day's brew as the mash tun was manually cleared of spent grain and taken away by the local farmer who feeds it to his livestock.
Finally, and well deserved, the winners were treated to a tasting of the whole range of Hogs Back Brewery beers. Master brewer Miles explained what to look out for when tasting beer and everyone enjoyed discussing the day over a refreshing beer or two.
Dinner and an overnight stay at the local Hogs Back Hotel & Spa rounded off our Head Brewer for Day winners' experience.
Joanne and Simon wrote to us afterwards to say that "Rupert and Miles were indeed the perfect tour guides, entertaining and impressing us with their knowledge and stories."
A great day was had by all and we were very pleased to welcome such enthusiastic winners to the Brewery! Thank you so much to everyone who entered the competition and made it a success.
