In light of St. George's Day, our team have carefully selected the Top 10 Best of British Beers that we currently sell in the Brewery Shop! There is a fantastic range of stouts, ales and barley wines on this list, so we are positive you will find the perfect beer to enjoy for St George's Day.
10. Arise Pale Ale, Burning Sky
Best Drinks Producer 2018 - This beautiful pale ale could have easily been higher in this list, but with such great beers we had to make some tough calls! This stunning brew from Burning Sky is made with Pilsner and wheat malts and backed with a Citra, Centennial and Amerillo hops gives this beer strong peach and pine aromas. High in flavour and at 4.4%, it can be enjoyed just about anytime of the day!
9. Oatmeal Stout, Samuel Smiths
Gold Medal 2012 World Beer Championships and Gold Medal 2011 US Open Beer Championships. This beer is made with water drawn from a well, which originally sunk in 1758 and fermented in 'stone Yorkshire squares', this creates a beautiful silky, smooth ale with a complex, medium dry, bittersweet finish.
8. Squiggle, Siren Craft Brew
Siren came in 2nd for Best New Brewery in the World 2013 and the Best Brewer in the UK 2014. Their beers have been enjoyed by us for a long time and Squiggle is no exception. This soft and juicy hazy pale is a real crowd pleaser. With oats making its body super smooth, and it's Idaho, Citra and Mosaic hops bringing mango, citrus and stone fruit flavours, this beer deserves a place in our Top 10!
7. High Wire Grapefruit, Magic Rock Brewing
Making it at number 7 on our list is High Wire Grapefruit by Magic Rock, who have been placed in the Top 100 Breweries by Rate Beer a total of 8 times! High Wire Grapefruit is one of our favourites - it's fresh, lip smacking and just the right amount of grapefruit flavours to make this beverage extra refreshing and very drinkable.
6. Stout, Titanic Brewery
CAMRA Champion Bottled Beer of Britain and runner up many times - this stout stands out as a classic amongst the modern take on darker brews. It's brewed with roasted barley, giving it it's rich colour, body and depth, with a slight hoppiness in there too.
5. West Coast Pale, Cloudwater Brew Co.
Named 2nd Best Brewery in the World 2018 - Cloudwater are based up in Manchester, and have been brewing since 2015. It was hard to pick just one of their beers to add to our list, but this easy drinking classic is an all round favourite of ours. It's aromatic and hoppy, with orange, caramel notes and a drop of peach.
4. Tongham TEA, Hogs Back Brewery
What better way to celebrate St George's day than with a delightful pint of Tongahm TEA? This multi award winning brew is our flagship ale, and the very first drink we ever brewed, with 100% surrey grown hops fresh from our farm. It's a full bodied bitter with a delicious, refreshing, hoppy and well balanced finish. We'll be enjoying a pint or two over the weekend for sure!
3. Padstow Pale Ale, Padstow Brewing Co.
Padstow Brewery have won plenty of awards since they began in 2013. This golden ale balances subtle English and vibrant US hops to create the perfect summer beer. Sipping on this reminds us of surfing on sunny beaches and relaxing as the sun goes down, what more could you want?
2. Faith in Futures, Northern Monk
Brewery of the Year 2019, Independent Beer Peoples Choice Award Winner 2019 - This IPA is all about the juice, showcasing the El Dorado and Citra for flavours of ripe mango, Seville orange and guava. This beer is velvet-smooth with a tangy citrus hit at the end. Number 2 on our list as it's just a delight to drink for any occasion.
1. A Over T, Hogs Back Brewery
It's not only us at Hogs Back who think our Number 1 beer on this list is brilliant, it's won CAMRAs Champion Bottled Beer of Britain in 2020. Brewed in small batches and matured in the brewery cellar like a fine wine, A over T is deeply complex, rich and with flavours of sultana, orange peel and plums. It's one to be savoured and pairs beautifully with a cheese board
