Ale of the Trail - TEA on the North Downs Way Beer Passport

Beer and walking go together like hand in glove. On Sunday 30th September, the North Downs Way National Trail celebrated it's 40th anniversary with a special ceremony on the Downs in Wye, near Canterbury where it was opened in 1978. Based on the ancient trail, the Pilgrims Way which runs from Winchester to Canterbury, the North Downs Way actually starts in Farnham and runs just 1/2 a mile from the Hogs Back Brewery. As well as passing some beautiful scenery including the Surrey Hills and looking over the High Weald, the North Downs Way passes close to several fantastic breweries and micro-breweries. To mark the anniversary, the North Downs Way has partnered up with 10 breweries along the way whose beer creates a definitive taste of Surrey & Kent which can be supped by hikers as they make their way down the 153 mile path. We are delighted to say that TEA has been chosen to represent the Ale of the Trail for the first leg of the walk from Farnham to Guildford. Made with 100% Surrey Grown Fuggles hops produced along the Surrey Hills and with it's refreshing characteristics, we think it would be the perfect sustenance for any thirsty walker!

On the anniversary some members of the Hogs Back team decided to walk the first 11 mile leg from Farnham and Guildford and pop in at a few pubs along the route - to check the beer quality of course! There are several delightful country pubs that you can stop for a TEA break right on the way that we would recommend including The Nelson Arms in Farnham, The Good Intent in Puttenham and Ye Olde Ship Inn on the edge of Guildford. If you fancy popping in at the Brewery, it's just a 20 minute detour when you reach Sandy Lane - head towards Tongham and it should be marked on your map as either 'Brewery' or 'Manor Farm' (where we are based).
