The Best Lager in the World: Our Shop team take their pick
The Shop team have introduced a new series of Brewery Gate boxes which celebrates the wonderful mix of beers the shop sells from around the world. Under normal circumstances we would have visitors to the shop browsing our shelves of over 300 different beers of all styles but at the moment the team have only been able to serve customers online or from the drive-through. Whilst you can either look at our range online or come in person and ask the team to recommend a beer, the Brewery Gate boxes helpful package these up into collections of the best beers in each style. Alongside the beer, the packs also contain tasting notes written by the team and food pairing recommendations to help enhance the experience.
Following the success of our sell-out Belgian beer packs, our current pack is the World Lager selection with beers from countries as far afield as Japan, USA, Argentina and Belgian. The Shop team have spared a few moments to talk about their personal favourites from the pack.
Harry’s pick: Augustiner Helles (Germany)
The original and still the best lager. Deeply refreshing and the pinnacle of the Helles style.
Sam L’s pick: Harviestoun Scheihallion
This beer comes with a punch of crisp bitterness and a beautiful grapefruit finish.
Jack C’s pick: Budweiser Budvar (Czech Republic)
A really pale lager with a delicious creamy head. As nice in Tongham as it is in Prague!
Jack B’s pick: Fruh Kolsch (Germany)
Fruit aromas upfront with a nice balanced bitterness on the finish. The perfect accompaniment to Fish & Chips!
Max’s pick: Verdett Blond (Belgium)
A pilsner of the highest quality; light and refreshing like any good lager but with an earthy quality from the strong hop profile.
