A little way to go for the longest day

According to the traditional, rural saying, the hops should be at the top of the wires by the longest day, June 21st.  This year, some of the hops have a little way to go!

Progress is slow but sure.

The Fuggles planted on the flat are keeping pace, but the ones on the slope are a little behind as any rain tends to run down the slope. Cascade, always a “late-developer” when it comes to hop cones, is showing good promise!

The changing weather patterns are keeping Estate Manager Matthew and his Hogs Back Hoppers on their toes. But the right combo of rain and sunshine should keep the hops on track for September’s harvest.
