Busy Apprentices - Hogs Back Brewery

Busy Apprentices

The Brewery has had a busy few months and you bet the apprentices have been lending a hand! With the Hop Harvest Festival weekend, Old Cow Byre renovations and the build up to Christmas, we've had a lot to do.

Euan has been working up a sweat with the Old Cow Byre renovations, from painting to putting up interior walls, and all under the Builder Ben's watch. Ben is very impressed with how quickly Euan is able to pick up new skills and loves finding new things for Euan to try out, such as knocking out holes in the walls and installing windows. Now that our new tenants have moved into the beautifully refurbished side of the Old Cow Byre, Euan has his work cut out making the other side equally as good!

All these new skills that he learns, he sends videos of himself doing the tasks to his tutor for review and so far, he's only received positive feedback! Euan is absolutely storming his way through his apprenticeship and we couldn't be prouder of him.

Euan was even able to lend a hand when it came to building a new shelter for our heater outside the Hangar! Both himself and Builder Ben had to build the shelter from scratch, varnish it, and coat it in weather-protectant sealant to make sure the rain doesn't rot the wood.

I (Alex) was happy to lend a helping hand at our Hop Harvest Festival. You may have seen me at the car park entrance, scanning tickets and handing out wristbands... The whole weekend was a fantastic team effort and I am glad to have been a part of it, plus I got to listen to the live bands play whilst I worked!

As early as it seems, I've been busy helping sort preparations for Christmas time, joining in on meetings and discussions on what to get in the shop for you guys to buy as Christmas presents, stocking fillers, birthday gifts etc. This includes tasks such as researching the market, coming up with design ideas, and my favourite part, doing all the photography!

Apprenticeship wise, I am just completing my first 1/4 of my apprenticeship! My submitted work has been praised by my teacher and my tutor says I am right on track with everything which is fantastic news to hear. My current project is having a go at writing my Project Report essay, which is what I'll need to do in my examination to describe a project that I've recently worked on.
