Brewery Shop granted plastic free approved status

We are delighted to have been awarded Plastic Free approved status by Plastic Free Farnham for our work to reduce our use of single-use plastic from the Brewery Shop.

To receive the status we had to make 3 transitions away from plastic in our day to day business operations. These were:

  • Introducing our refillable Snifters and Snorters for Brewery Fresh Beer: So far we have sold over 1754 of these and they have been refilled 8435 times - meaning we have saved 10,189 PET bottles in less than a year!
  • Introducing the recyclable 5Litre minikegs to provide an alternative to a 9 pint PET bottle: We have sold 1327 of these since September 2020 and are researching ways to also make these refillable
  • Replaced the plastic wrap on the Whole Hog Mixed Case gift pack with cardboard packaging - our most popular gift pack which has been bought 2,015 times in the last year. We continue to roll this out across the rest of the gift pack range.

This continues to be part of our larger business-wide effort to reduce our carbon footprint which is showcased by the Hop growing and harvesting efforts and will also be reflected at the Hop Harvest Parties too with re-usable cups and compostable food containers available to attenders.

Plastic Free Farnham is one of the 802 Plastic Free communities being set up across the UK as part of the Surfers against Sewage movement. In fact Farnham is a 'Community in progress' as we need more businesses and non-profit organisations to sign up and make just 3 changes to their business to reduce plastic consumption. The local businesses already sign up are We Are Refillable, The Nappy Lady and Farnham Wholefoods and the non-profits that have signed up are Rotary Club of Farnham, Binsted Eco Network, Farnham Community Farm and The Source Young People's Charity.

If you are part of a company or organisation that is already doing a lot or would like to try and receive Plastic Free approved status, please contact the local Community organiser Isabel Robson by emailing plasticfreefarnham@gmail.com.
