Belgian Beer Tastings goes with a Bang
The inaugural Belgian Beer Tasting in the Brewery Shop was certainly a success. With our friend, beer sommelier, Simon at the helm, it was a fun and informative evening.
The select group of 16 squeezed into the Brewery Shop on the first floor (very appropriately amongst all the UK and World bottles and cans!) and were guided through the fascinating world of Belgian beers. With plenty of stories at his fingertips, Simon kept his audience rapt.
Interspersed with tastings of 5 contrasting beers, Simon expertly talked through a range of styles from Duvel right through to Cherry Chouffe, brewed with real sour cherries. Covering not only the history of the breweries and the beers themselves, Simon also shared how important the glass shape and beer head are, as well as offering tips on food pairing.
With tasters of Comté cheese to really bring alive the generous tasting samples, the evening finished with a light-hearted quiz, testing his guests' knowledge of Belgium and the beers they had tasted. There were prizes for the winners and even some fun give-aways, including bike lights, bottle openers and glasses. With 10% off Belgian beer purchases at the end of the evening, our guests made the most of the evening.
A good time was had by all and we hope we can persuade Simon to come back again in the spring!
