Apprentices Shine
The apprentices were undaunted by the prospect of presenting at the Hogs Back Board Meeting this week. Instead, they seemed to rather relish it! Working together as a team, they were relaxed and smiling and put on a really good show!
Despite working across three very different disciplines in the business – Euan in Facilities Maintenance, Ben in Finance and Alex in Marketing – there were several common themes…..
Asked about what they had learnt in their time at the Brewery, they spoke of a whole range of skills they had acquired and were continuing to use.
First up was Euan, who has enjoyed the variety of work, with no two days being the same. He vividly remembers his first task under Builder Ben when he fitted some plasterboard with way too many screws, which he then had to remove, so he learned the hard way. Now Euan has got an impressive range of skills under his belt, he’s happy to pass on the tips of the trade to his fellow workers and he now has responsibility for overseeing his fellow workers on certain tasks.
Alex is the latest apprentice to join the TEA Academy. Already with an impressive background in photography, she has a special affinity for creating original content for the website and social media. Although she is working across a wide range of projects, Alex really enjoys running the Tap Room Instagram account, which has a more family focus, and which she is starting to grow.
Finally, it was the turn of Ben. Since beginning his first lecture in November of last year, he has really enjoyed learning not just the principles of accountancy but also how he can apply them to his day to day job. It really makes a lot more sense when he can see the principles in practice. Working towards his AAT accountancy qualification means lots of exams during the course, but Ben fully embraces all aspects of the Brewery including helping in the hop garden and digging out the mash tun!
The verdict of the Board? Very impressed and delighted to have three such Talented, Enthusiastic and Able young members of the team. Just what you would hope for at the TEA (Train. Experience. Achieve) Academy!
